NEW!!! Portrait Style Paintings

Commisions:

I receive many requests for painting family pets. It’s such a great way to amortize them forever. For me, looking at a painting of each of my pets makes me quickly reflect on all our great moments together. So for the first time I am offering more of a portrait style painting focused entirely on your pet. Here are a few examples.

Phone: 1-877-294-5566 or e-mail: art@kathyhagerman.com for more information on having your pet painted.

2014 News Letter

Kathy Hagerman Newsletter for 2014

Texture:

This year I have enjoyed, experimenting and exploring adding texture to my paintings - to make them more three-dimensional, especially with the action-packed subjects that I so enjoy capturing. I want the viewer to feel the depth and be drawn into each and every painting. Using texture mediums, has open the door , finding a whole new method of self-expression. There is a lot of room for experimentation so I feel inspired to try different techniques. I’ve been able to create really cool effects that would be difficult or impossible to create with just acrylic paint. There are endless ways to apply textured mediums, pallet knife, paintbrushes, my fingers, toothbrushes, sponges, have all been explored in my recent paintings.

By adding these acrylic gels to my work I can highlight and draw attention to certain areas of a painting, such as adding texture to the bark of a tree or sand on at beach.

Painting Water

Painting water is one of the most compelling subjects for me. I have always been attracted to waters power and how it makes me feel. Recreating its energy through paint is both challenging and magical. I have always used colour, reflection and light to achieve my desired look. The adding of textured gels adds a new dimension to my work.

2013 Latest Works

It is hard to believe that almost a whole year has passed and its less than 1 month until the U.S. 2013 Golden Retriever National which will be held in Wichita Falls TX (Oct. 20-27). I always look forward to this event, reuniting with many friends and clients and seeing some of the most beautiful golden retrievers in the country. This will be a new area for us to see and explore which is always exciting. We plan on spending a second week in Galveston TX area.

This year I enjoyed working with several clients that had commissioned me to paint something special for them. One commission I had the pleasure of painting was a female golden retriever and her 10 puppies. This painting I titled, A Mothers Pride as you can feel the mothers delight over her little harem. The lovely fall colours of the woods background made a great backdrop for the puppies to play and show off their inquisitive nature. This original acrylic painting will be hanging in a private collection in Japan.

  •          Giclee Prints will be available in 4 sizes.

  •          For more information go to Print Collection Golden Retrievers.

New Works 2013

This next piece titled Evening Solitude reminds me of my son when he was a small child with his golden. They both loved crawling into bed together. Always having the need to touch each other, leaving them both with a sense of contentment. The Luminous glow from the night light cast a warm hue across the boy's face, setting the mood for this piece.  Leaving me with a warm and fuzzy feeling!

Final Swim

The Final Swim was painted using a more impressionistic style. This piece has a lot of texture especially in the water that quite effective creates the illusion of moving water surrounding the dog. A place that most Goldens love to be.

Yogi

Yogi as everyone knew him by, was a very special and talented Golden Retriever. I was fortunate to have met him on several occasions mostly as a mature dog. This painting I am still working on but I just had the urge to try and capture his spirit in a painting. Original and prints will be available soon.

Winter's Mysteries.

Marcus my English Golden, loves fresh and fluffy snow. He enjoys pouncing on anything that moves. As he explored I couldnt help but smile at his curiosity and concentration. Capturing this action packed moment in a painting, with his head down, ears forward and snow flying was a real treat for me.

Look What I Found

Look What I Found! Just makes me laugh. This golden retriever puppy was so happy when he uncovered this old tennis ball buried in the mud by the edge of a pond. His excitement and innocence is what I tried to portray in this acrylic painting. This original painting is still in progress and prints can be ordered in 4 sizes.

Daughters Wedding

It has been a very busy and special year for us. Along with completing several new paintings, a 6 week trip to Australia, New Zealand and Dubai, our beautiful daughter Jessica got married on Sept. 13th. The reception was held at The Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville ON. It was a magnificent and magical day all round. Many people will remember Jessica, or even have paintings and prints of her as a little girl. I loved using my children as models, to capture these special moments in time. I thought some people would like to see what see looks like today. Here are a few paintings of her from the past and a few photos of her with her husband, Norbert, from their engagement and Wedding shoot.  Jessica currently works for Revlon as a Marketing Director in Toronto ON.

ORIGINAL Remember

The Remember¦. Project

Champions tend to inspire memorable stories, but they can have a profound effect on many people. Maybe its because people can relate, maybe its sympathy, frustration, maybe it just stirs people up in larger numbers. For Sue Robins, it was a call for action when her friend Sue Lee suddenly lost Am GCH. Can. CH Sweetleas Follow Me BISS BIS SDHF, this spring at the young age of 8 from Hemangiosacoma. He was a beautiful Golden Retriever who had just won a BOB at Westminster Feb. 14th, for the 2nd time. Sue Robins, a golden breeder from New Jersey recalls, Just imagine how I felt when I received the phone call, my friend was crying, both happy and sad; her dog had just won a BOB at Westminster for the 2nd time, and then in the next breath she tells me that he was just diagnosed with Hemangiosacoma. Jacques died March 10th. Before his death, Sue had the opportunity to photograph Jacques on a New Jersey beach where he was as happy as he could be, playing with his tennis ball, running and jumping in the ocean, like a dog should be.

Sues  passion was contagious. After seeing the series of photos she had taken, it did not take me long to be convinced of her idea to have me paint one of her photos of Jacques, and auction the original at the 2012 Golden Retriever National Gala, to raise money for GRF Zeke Cancer Research Fund.

At first we hit a few obstacles, but that didnt stop Sue. She was determined. The next thing I knew, Sue had received the financial support from 2 clubs, the Lenape and NJ Pine Barrens to finance 2/3 of the cost of the original and I would contribute 1/3.  The thought that so many people believed in the cause inspired me even more to paint a painting that was full of life and promise.  As Sue said, I felt it was time for us to do something to try and help the fight. Thanks to Sue Robins and both clubs for making this possible.

The title Remember…. was inspired by a friend of Sue who observed, There are so many dogs who have contributed so much to our breed who we should not forget.  Your dog, my dog, puppies that are struck down at an early age from this dreaded disease that causes such heartbreak. So the Remember Project was born.

So now it is up to you to purchase this lovely limited edition giclee' print of  Remember  before Sept. 13th, and have 25% go toward The Zeke Cancer Fund. Our collective efforts will reflect the desire of all of us to make a difference in preserving the breed we all love so much.

Remember...

Remember¦. Original Acrylic Painting by Kathy Hagerman

This very special original acrylic painting titled, Remember was painted by well-known Canadian Artist, Kathy Hagerman. Kathys originals and prints hang in both private and corporate collections all around the world. Her unique style combines color and light, creating a mood that brings her subjects to life and draws the viewer right into her paintings.

Painting professionally since 1979, her love and admiration for the retriever breed is evident to everyone who views her work.

I feel that art expresses the emotion that people feel inside, and just watching a golden, whether in the show ring or playing, inspires me with endless ideas. I have a constant desire to pick up a brush and paint, trying to capture that emotion and recreate what I feel inside. With the help of some internal force that guides my hand… I tell a story through my paintings, and I feel honored to have had the opportunity to tell a Golden story that has touched so many of us personally.

Remember was inspired by the recent loss of Jacque, GCH Sweetleas Follow Me who died of Hemangiosarcoma cancer at the young age of eight. This brought back my own personal loss of one of my Golden Retrievers from this deadly disease that has attacked Goldens in higher numbers than almost any other breed.

My hope is that others will identify with this painting and Remember their Goldens as well as others who have been taken from us far too early in their lives, and have an inner desire to try and help find the answers.

Kathy Hagerman-Artist

About the PAINTING:

This painting depicts how I see a Golden- beautiful, fun, energetic, loyal, a great companion, truly mans best friend.

The painting is done in acrylic on a museum art board, glazed with many layers of clear coat varnish.

I used strong colors in different ways to create depth and dimension in the water. I also use a layering process whereby I build up the painting with thin coats allowing my under- painting to shine through. This allows for a large array of shades, giving you the illusion that the Golden Retriever is moving right out of the painting.

I used light with colour to enhance the mood, creating dramatic changes in light and darkness. Combining strong deeply-defined brush strokes in the background with refined single-hair brushstrokes and splattering in the foreground, I set the mood for the painting. Kathy Hagerman Artist

Remember is a New Giclee print by well-known Canadian Artist Kathy Hagerman.

This Special Edition of 400 signed and numbered high-quality prints were inspired by a recent loss of a Golden Retriever who died at a young age from Hemangiosarcoma cancer. In fact, statistics have shown that Golden Retrievers have one of the highest mortality rates of any breed from this silent killer.

The Zeke Fund

In 1999 the Golden Retriever Foundation (AGRF) established a canine cancer research fund called The Zeke Fun. For more info please click below

to study and address the critical health issues that impact Golden Retrievers.

Kathy feels very strongly about the need for this research.

For a limited time only, Kathy will be donating 25% of sales (both framed and unframed) from this beautiful print Rememberto the Zeke Fund. All orders must be received by Sept. 13th.

My hope is that others will identify with this painting and Remember their beloved Goldens as well as others who have been taken from us far too early in their lives, and have an inner desire to try and help find answers. Kathy Hagerman- Artist

In Memory of Cody 1995 - 2010

Jan., 2010       - For those of you who had met my golden retriever, Cody, we unfortunately lost him in Jan to cancer. He was 15 yrs. old but its never easy losing a member of your family. Cody will always be remembered as the runner, the investigator and the food stealer. ¦ Every time I look at his paintings such as Everything Gold Is New Again or Watch and Learn it brings a smile to my face as I recollect those special moments we shared.

Visit to The Kentucky Horse Park

April 2010 - In April I had another opportunity to go back to Kentucky to photograph and sketch some great subjects at the Kentucky Horse Park during the Dressage championships and the 3 day National Eventing Competition sponsored by Rolex . While there, I was invited to a thoroughbred breeding farm and a Training Centre where I was thoroughly in ah of such spectacular animals. Here is a quick preview of the subjects I will be painting in the near future!

Marcus - Our Adopted Golden Retriever

July- I exhibited my work this year at The Canadian Golden Retriever National held in Stratford Ontario. During the show we had the opportunity to adopt an 8 yr. old Canadian Champion, named Marcus. For all you owners of British Golden Retrievers you will be happy to now that he is cream in colour. We have had lots of fun helping him to adjust from a show dog to a spoiled pet, exposing him to new things, such as swimming, boating and squirrels. Watching him has already stirred the pot for some interesting paintings next year.

Kathy supports son's Charity!

Gary, and I are very proud to announce that our 18 year old son Blaine, has recently received a prestigious National Millennium Scholarship for his commitment to school, the community and mostly for his concerns for others. Over the past year he established a charity called THE SHOE CONNECTION . His goal is to collect and distribute good used running shoes to help people in need. To date he has sent shoes to Haiti, 9 Homeless and Youth Shelters in Toronto, and is currently working with the Kenyan Embassy, and a desperately needy village in Panama.

Blaine is currently attending The University of Western Ontario and is pre-accepted to the Ivey School of Business. He plans to continue to expand his charity, recruit other student representatives and speak on the need to help others.
